This week was the Emotion Women’s Day in Hamburg, Germany, where I was speaking about the German edition of How to Own the Room . An amazing experience — meeting 1500 readers and sharing thoughts and ideas. Incredible but also overwhelming. So I wanted to pick out something soft and gentle as a re-set. Some words of comfort and calm.
Don’t Hesitate by Mary Oliver
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be. We are not wise, and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, but very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the case. Anyway, whatever that is, don’t be afraid of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
As well as travel, lots of events prep and loads of deadlines, I’m caught up in the pre-publication frenzy for my new book Happy High Status (out 29 June so these words meant a lot to me this week.
Let joy never be a crumb! Notice the instant when love begins! See possibility! Be open to plenty. Namaste. (Or as Sara Pascoe says: this means, “The yoga is finished now.”)
